Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Patient Story:
Amanda Tarantino, 26, California
I have smoked for 12 years but for the last few years have been waking up sick and needing to throw up some mornings. I didn’t think much of it until one morning I woke up at 3am thinking I was dying so I got driven to the ER. That where I got diagnosed with Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome on 03/2019 when I told them I smoked weed daily for years and my only relief was a hot bath. My first episode lasted 2 weeks, 3 ER visits, and a $600 bill even with good insurance. After the 3rd day I wanted to die because I was in so much pain. My taste buds on my tongue melted off from the acid coming into my mouth. I could not eat or drink or stop throwing up and ended up loosing 17 pounds in 14 days. I was hot and cold all the time. My anxiety went into hyperdrive making everything worse. I tried switching from chemically made wax, to chemical free wax thinking that was the problem but it came back about 1 year later. Then I switched to just bud(family grown) and it came back in 2 weeks this time. Now that I know it is not what I smoke but the cannabinoids themselves, even though I love marijuana, I have stopped smoking because it is not worth the terrible, long lasting, basically incurable pain.
